WHAT IS CHRISTIAN SCIENCE?

Christian Science is a Christian denomination based on the Bible that seeks to commemorate the words and works of Christ Jesus and to reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing. The church was founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy who had spent many years seeking to understand the healing method found in the Bible. Eddy felt she discovered the underlying spiritual principle that governed the Christianity that Jesus exemplified and called it

Christian Science. Eddy defined Christian Science as follows, “As the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony” (Rudimental Divine Science, p. 1).

Adherents of Christian Science study and practice their faith daily, seeking to understand the world through spiritual terms. Christian Science is often known for its healing of the sick that results from its practice. While healing disease is an important element of its practice, healing sin, or a sense of separation from a loving God,

is the largest part of Christian Science.
